GHS Foundation Royal Tea Party & Silent Auction

OXFORD, NC (May 01, 2010)
The Granville Health System (GHS) Foundation held its Second Annual Royal Tea Party and Silent Auction on Saturday, May 15 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Granville County Shrine Club in Oxford.

As people arrived, a PowerPoint show displayed numerous photographs from last year’s event, while the Evelyn Snyder String Trio entertained attendees with musical selections. The afternoon tea featured a four-course menu with delicious cinnamon spice tea, several kinds of savories (tea sandwiches), fresh scones served with strawberry jam and clotted cream, lemon squares, pear sparkler, and fruit compote. Students from J.F. Webb High School served the guests in a very efficient and elegant manner.

pin To enliven the afternoon, a Parade of Hats was held, with prizes awarded at the end of the event for the most beautiful, most creative and most unusual hats. Almost 40 women participated in the Parade.

Raffle items included 6 VIP tickets to the NC Symphony headlining Clay Aiken, including valet parking and a reception; subscriptions to Our State Magazine; tickets to Marketplace Cinema, and gift cards for J. C. Penney.

The silent auction featured gift certificates for WLUS advertising, as well as Ashley Jordan Flowers and Gifts, and included lace tablecloths from Lace Lastics, a gas trimmer from Lowes, custom framed professional photographs of water lilies from Cole Rodger Photographics and Jones Custom Framing, gift baskets from Old North State Tea Society and Stovall’s Gift Shop, a custom hand painted bird house from Southern States, a candle from Made By Hand, and a pair of table lamps from Susan Wicker. Additional items were donated by Fishing Creek Nursery & Florist, Morton’s Nursery & Florist, and The Cake Lady.

The GHS Foundation enlisted Marcia Roots of Durham, NC to speak at the event. Mrs. Roots is a Level 3 Professional Series Graduate of the Specialty Tea Institute in California, a Division of the Tea Association of the USA, Inc., and is recognized as a recommended speaker on tea topics by the Institute. At the World Tea Expo in Las Vegas, and in cities across the United States, including San Francisco and Charleston, Mrs. Roots completed courses on foundational tea knowledge, sensory evaluation and cultivation, manufacture and processing standards for White, Green, Black, Oolong and Pu'erh teas. She delighted the Tea attendees with some of that information during the event.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Granville Health System Foundation.
